Appalachian Trail: Day 51

Today was another rainy day. My original goal for the day was to camp right over the TN/VA border. A distance of about 15 miles. The rain and the terrain changed that.
The terrain was relatively easy today, so I made good time. I stopped briefly for lunch at a tiny shelter which was built in the 1930s. It was so tiny, I had to take my pack off and duck pretty low to get inside.
After lunch, I continued my hike through the rain and got to the border around 4. At that point, the terrain turned into mostly downhill for about 3.5 miles to reach to the town of Damascus. Because of how early it was and how much it was still raining, I decided to push and made it into Damascus around 6.
Having visited the town previously for Trail Days, I was mostly familiar with the layout and walked to the opposite side of town, a distance of maybe half a mile, to reach The Broken Fiddle hostel where I got a bunk for the night. After a nice shower and some clean clothes, I walked back through town to get to the local diner to grab some dinner.
