Today was a good day. The sun was shining and the terrain was easy. I was able to make some good miles today.
I ended up leapfrogging with Caveman a bunch today. He is also from the same area as me, so we discussed that and talked about our plans for getting home after the hike.
As with a lot of the trail in North Carolina, it's actually on the border between North Carolina and Tennessee. There was a part of the trail that was on an exposed ridgeline. It was interesting to look on one side and see Tennessee and how close the towns were and look on the other side towards North Carolina and just see more mountains.
We also hit the 300 mile mark on the trail today. There wasn't much to mark it. Just some sticks laid out to say 300. Still a nice milestone.
We got to Flint Mountain Shelter around 5. There were a couple hikers there when we got there, but more rolled in later. Sophie, Noel, and Dawson showed up. I had initially met Sophie and Noel at Gatlinburg as they were getting off the shuttle and I was getting on. Apparently Dawson joined them on a whim in Gatlinburg. They all seem nice and Sophie French braided my hair for me.
Tomorrow is a long day and I'm not sure if I'm going to make it. It's a 19 mile day with lots of up and downs.
