Appalachian Trail: Day 41

Today was a very difficult day. Due to the damage caused by hurricane Helene, part of the trail was closed and there was a detour. I don't know who put that detour together, but my hatred for them burns with the heat of a thousand firey suns.
The detour started off fine. The trail turned and went to an old off road path. That lead to a gravel and eventually paved road that was a nice gradual downhill grade. That changed when the detour entered the woods again. For some reason the trail went up a very steep climb only to go back down the other side just as steeply.
From there it continued on some more off road paths until it finally joined back with the AT. There was a nice spot for a break and water at that point, so I stopped for lunch and to socialize with the other hikers. It was also conveniently the 1/6 of the trail done point.
From there I continued on to the shelter for the night. I'm still slow on the uphill sections, but I'm slowly getting used to them.
