I can prove we are living in a simulation. How you ask? The world rendering engine glitched today. What was supposed to be a great view was just a wall of grey.
"But, Riley," I hear you cry, "you are in the Smokys and with the weather, that's just being inside of a cloud." Maybe, but what's more fun to think about? Being in a cloud or the world simulation having a glitch? I'm going to go with the glitch because it's amusing and keeps me entertained on the long hike.
It did end up clearing up later in the day so I did get some decent views, but that just means that they patched the rendering engine to fix the glitch.
I started off from Icewater Spring Shelter this morning with the goal of hiking to Tri-Corner Knob Shelter. A 12.6 mile hike. I took a nice break for lunch at the turn off for Pecks Corner Shelter, a 7.4 mile hike from Icewater, and realized I probably could have made it yesterday instead of staying at Icewater.
I continued on and made it to Tri-Corner at about 3 PM. Usually, this would be a good day, but something came over me. I looked at the guide and saw that Cosby was only a 7.7 mile hike, mostly downhill. I had been making good time so far, so I decided to push.
I made it to Cosby around 7 PM. Enough time to get my pad and bag setup in the shelter and start to cook dinner. My headlamp was sort of needed by the end of dinner and to hang my food bag.
My first 20 mile day, and my legs weren't happy about it, but it gives me a short 10.4 miles for tomorrow and a hostel to stay in.
